A routine drive on Route 21 turned into a serious emergency after a vehicle crossed the highway median and crashed into oncoming traffic in Nutley, leaving several people seriously injured. The late-night collision involving three vehicles triggered a major emergency response as authorities began investigating what caused the vehicle to enter the opposite lanes.

Several people suffered serious injuries after a three-vehicle crash on Route 21 in Nutley, New Jersey, when a vehicle crossed the highway median and struck two vehicles traveling in the opposite direction, authorities said.

The Nutley Police Department responded to what officials described as a significant motor vehicle accident on the night of July 25. According to police, the crash occurred when a vehicle traveling northbound on Route 21 collided with the center median. After the impact, the vehicle crossed over the median into the southbound lanes, where it struck two other vehicles.

The collision led to a major emergency response, with police officers, medical teams, and other first responders arriving at the scene to assist those involved.

    Multiple Passengers Suffer Serious Injuries

Several passengers involved in the crash sustained serious injuries and were transported to local hospitals for treatment, authorities said.

Officials have not released the total number of people injured or provided updates about their current medical conditions. The identities of those involved in the crash have also not been disclosed.

Emergency crews worked to secure the area and provide medical assistance while investigators began reviewing the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Vehicle Crossed Median Into Southbound Traffic

Police said the crash began when the northbound vehicle struck the center median before crossing into lanes carrying traffic in the opposite direction.

The sudden movement of the vehicle into southbound lanes created a dangerous situation and resulted in a collision with two other vehicles.

Investigators are examining the sequence of events to determine how the vehicle lost control and crossed the median. Authorities have not yet confirmed what caused the initial impact.

Police and Prosecutors Investigate Crash Cause

The Nutley Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Authorities are collecting evidence and reviewing information from the crash scene to determine whether any specific factors contributed to the incident.

Officials have not confirmed whether speed, driver actions, mechanical problems, road conditions, or any other factors played a role in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.

Officials Continue Reviewing Evidence From Scene

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office directed questions regarding the crash to the Nutley Police Department, which is leading the investigation.

Police have not released additional information about the vehicles involved, the injured passengers, or whether any citations or charges are expected.

Investigators are expected to continue analyzing available evidence as they work to understand the events that led to the collision.

Route 21 Crash Raises Highway Safety Concerns

A vehicle crossing a highway median can create a serious risk because it places drivers traveling in opposite directions directly in the path of a potential collision.

The crash highlights the importance of maintaining control, following traffic rules, and staying alert while driving on busy roadways.

Authorities continue encouraging motorists to exercise caution, especially on highways where sudden incidents can quickly result in severe accidents.

Investigation Continues as Authorities Search for Answers

As investigators continue examining the circumstances behind the crash, authorities are working to determine what led to the vehicle crossing the median and causing the multi-vehicle collision.
Further details are expected as the Nutley Police Department and Essex County Prosecutor’s Office continue their investigation. For now, officials are urging motorists to remain cautious and attentive while traveling on busy roadways.
