Sony Pictures has unveiled the first Jumanji: Open World trailer, reuniting its beloved cast for one last adventure as the game’s dangerous world spills into reality.

Jumanji’s Biggest Twist Yet Changes Everything

The world of Jumanji is no longer confined to a game.

Sony Pictures has released the first official trailer for Jumanji: Open World, offering fans their first look at what promises to be the franchise’s most ambitious chapter. The fifth film—and the third starring the current ensemble brings back Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Alex Wolff for a final adventure that turns the series’ familiar formula upside down.

Instead of players being pulled into the game, this time the game breaks into the real world.

A Holiday Gathering Turns Into Total Chaos

The trailer opens with Spencer Gilpin enjoying a holiday meal with family and friends before the calm is shattered by an unexpected visitor—a charging rhinoceros crashing through a restaurant.

As confusion spreads, Spencer spots familiar faces from the world of Jumanji: Dr. Smolder Bravestone, Professor Shelly Oberon, Franklin “Mouse” Finbar, and Ruby Roundhouse. Their appearance reveals that the game’s fictional world has escaped into reality, creating a dangerous situation unlike anything seen in the previous films.

The trailer also hints that the characters are trapped in what is described as “demo mode,” adding another obstacle to an already impossible mission.

The Team Must Save Two Worlds

With the line between fiction and reality beginning to disappear, the heroes are forced into a race against time.

To restore order, they must send the game’s characters back where they belong while navigating another round of unexpected body swaps—a signature element that has become one of the franchise’s most recognizable and entertaining features.

The trailer suggests that the mission will test the team in new ways as familiar characters find themselves in unfamiliar bodies once again.

Fan-Favorite Cast Reunites One Last Time

The film reunites the cast that helped transform Jumanji into one of Hollywood’s biggest modern adventure franchises.

Alongside Johnson, Black, Hart, Gillan, and Wolff, the movie also features Danny DeVito, Nick Jonas, Awkwafina, Marin Hinkle, Bebe Neuwirth, Lamorne Morris, and Rhys Darby, bringing back several familiar faces for the series’ farewell.

Their return signals one final blend of action, comedy, and heart that audiences have come to expect from the rebooted films.

A Franchise That Reinvented a Classic

Inspired by Chris Van Allsburg’s 1981 children’s book, Jumanji first reached movie theaters in 1995 with Robin Williams leading the original adventure.

More than two decades later, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle successfully reinvented the story by replacing the magical board game with a video game, introducing a fresh cast while preserving the adventurous spirit that made the original so memorable. Its sequel, Jumanji: The Next Level, continued that success in 2019.

After years of anticipation, Open World appears ready to deliver the biggest evolution yet by bringing the dangers of the game directly into everyday life.

Christmas Release Will Close the Modern Trilogy

Jumanji: Open World is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 25, 2026, marking the end of the rebooted trilogy.

While the trailer leaves many questions unanswered, it makes one thing clear: this won’t simply be another trip back into Jumanji. It is the franchise’s biggest gamble yet, with two worlds colliding and one final mission standing between order and complete chaos. If the full film delivers on the excitement teased in its first trailer, it could provide a memorable farewell to one of Hollywood’s most successful adventure franchises.
