New Jersey faces a heightened risk of severe thunderstorms Tuesday, with damaging winds, flash flooding, hail and dangerous lightning possible as officials urge residents to prepare early.

    WEBDESK – NJNEWSLINE

New Jersey residents are being advised to stay alert as a powerful storm system is expected to move across the state on Tuesday. Forecasters warn that severe thunderstorms could bring damaging winds, torrential rainfall, flash flooding and isolated hail, with conditions likely to worsen during the afternoon and evening hours.

Severe Weather Outlook Puts State on Alert

Meteorologists say the combination of high humidity, warm temperatures and an approaching cold front will create an environment favorable for severe thunderstorms.

While not every community will experience the strongest storms, weather experts say any thunderstorm that develops could quickly become severe and produce hazardous conditions.

Strong Wind Gusts Could Leave Damage Behind

One of the biggest concerns is the possibility of damaging wind gusts that could topple trees, damage roofs and knock down power lines.

Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor furniture, patio umbrellas and other loose objects before the storms arrive, as sudden wind bursts may occur with little warning.

Flash Flooding Could Impact Roads and Neighborhoods

Heavy rainfall is expected to accompany many of the storms, increasing the risk of flash flooding in flood-prone and low-lying areas.

Drivers are urged to avoid water-covered roads, as even shallow floodwaters can become dangerous. Officials continue reminding motorists to turn around rather than attempt to drive through flooded streets.

Hail Remains a Possibility in Isolated Areas

Although widespread hail is not expected, forecasters say the strongest storm cells could produce hail capable of damaging vehicles, roofs and outdoor property.

Residents are advised to move vehicles into garages or covered parking areas if severe thunderstorm warnings are issued.

Residents Urged to Stay Informed Throughout the Day

Emergency management officials recommend monitoring local weather forecasts and enabling emergency alerts on mobile devices.

Conditions may change rapidly, and timely warnings will be critical for anyone planning to spend time outdoors or travel during the afternoon.

    Evening Commute May Be Disrupted

The timing of the storms could create difficult travel conditions during the evening rush hour.

Heavy rain, reduced visibility, strong crosswinds and water pooling on highways may slow traffic and increase the risk of accidents across parts of New Jersey.

    Outdoor Plans Could Be Interrupted

Communities hosting sporting events, festivals and other outdoor gatherings should be prepared for weather-related delays or cancellations.

Lightning remains one of the most dangerous threats during thunderstorms, and officials advise everyone to seek shelter immediately if thunder is heard.

    Simple Preparations Can Improve Safety

Emergency officials recommend keeping flashlights, batteries and fully charged mobile phones readily available in case of temporary power outages.

Residents should also avoid standing near windows during severe storms and stay away from downed power lines if damage occurs.

Better Weather Expected After the System Moves Out

Forecasters expect conditions to improve once the storm system exits the region later Tuesday or overnight.

Even after the storms pass, officials say residents should remain cautious around flooded areas, damaged trees and power lines until cleanup crews complete their work and all weather advisories are lifted.
