Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino hints at possible run for New Jersey governor

Reality television star Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino has hinted that he may one day enter politics and run for governor of New Jersey, adding a surprising new chapter to the former “Jersey Shore” star’s public journey from reality TV fame to addiction recovery advocacy.

Sorrentino made the remarks during a launch party for Vue magazine in Wall Township, New Jersey, where he appeared as the magazine’s cover feature.

WEBDESK – NJNEWSLINE: Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino says he may one day run for New Jersey governor as he expands his addiction recovery and mental health initiatives across the United States.

Speaking at the event last week, Sorrentino said he hopes to expand his Archangel addiction recovery centers nationwide before potentially entering politics.

“I’d like to have an Archangel’s center in every 50 states, and after that, you know, I will introduce everybody to Governor Situation,” Sorrentino said during an interview with News 12.

When asked whether he would run as a Republican or Democrat, Sorrentino avoided directly naming a political party but joked that New Jersey residents would likely support lower property taxes.

“I can’t announce that yet, but I think the residents of New Jersey would like no property tax,” he said.

The 43-year-old reality TV personality opened his first drug and alcohol rehabilitation center, Archangel Center, in Tinton Falls in November 2025 alongside his wife, Lauren Sorrentino. The facility provides addiction treatment and mental health counseling services.

Sorrentino said the center reflects a personal mission shaped by his own struggles with substance abuse and recovery.

“Many years ago, I vowed that one day I would have the strength and resources to help those who are still suffering from the disease of addiction, like I once was, and here we are,” he said during the facility’s opening ceremony last year.

He has since announced plans to open a second Archangel Center location in East Windsor as part of a broader expansion.

Born on Staten Island and raised in nearby Manalapan, New Jersey, Sorrentino rose to international fame as one of the original cast members of MTV’s hit reality show “Jersey Shore,” which followed a group of young adults living and partying together in Seaside Heights.

The show became a pop culture phenomenon and helped transform Sorrentino into one of reality television’s most recognizable personalities.

However, his public career also included legal and financial troubles. In 2018, Sorrentino was sentenced to prison for tax evasion after failing to pay taxes on millions of dollars earned through television appearances and endorsements. He later served eight months in federal prison.

Before his entertainment success, Sorrentino owned tanning salons in Middletown and Manalapan under the Boca Tanning Club name, though both businesses later closed amid financial disputes and unpaid rent issues.

In 2015, he was also involved in a highly publicized dispute with his brother at one of the salons, resulting in a simple assault charge.

That same year marked a turning point in his personal life when he became sober from drugs and alcohol — a milestone he frequently credits with transforming his future.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Archangel Center last year was attended by several former “Jersey Shore” cast members, including Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi and Jenni “J-Woww” Farley, as well as New Jersey State Senator Vin Gopal.

Political analysts say celebrity candidates continue to attract attention in American politics, though it remains unclear whether Sorrentino seriously intends to pursue public office or was speaking humorously during the event.

Still, his comments quickly sparked reactions online, with supporters praising his recovery journey while others questioned whether a reality TV personality could realistically mount a gubernatorial campaign in New Jersey.
