Amazon is exploring a potential reboot of the reality TV series The Apprentice, according to reports, signaling renewed interest in one of the most influential business competition shows of the 2000s.
The project remains in its early stages, with Amazon confirming it has held “internal discussions” about the franchise’s future since acquiring MGM. However, the company noted that no final decision has been made and key stakeholders have not yet been formally consulted.
The original show, created by Mark Burnett, aired from 2004 to 2017 and was hosted for most of its run by current U.S. President Donald Trump. The series featured contestants competing for a role within Trump’s business empire and became a cultural phenomenon, drawing millions of weekly viewers.
Reports indicate that Donald Trump Jr. is being considered as a possible host for the reboot, though no official casting announcements have been made.
Following Trump’s departure in 2015 during his presidential campaign, the show continued briefly with Arnold Schwarzenegger as host before ending its run.
Despite being off the air, The Apprentice has remained financially relevant. According to industry reports, the show continues to generate significant annual royalty income, with the Trump family retaining co-ownership of the property.
The series was both a ratings success and a critical contender during its peak, earning multiple Emmy nominations and averaging around 20 million viewers per episode.
Its legacy, however, is closely tied to Trump’s political rise. NBC cut ties with him in 2015 following controversial remarks made during his campaign, effectively ending his association with the network.
Any reboot under Amazon would mark a significant shift for the franchise, potentially introducing it to a new generation of viewers while revisiting a format that helped shape modern reality television.
It remains unclear whether the revival will move forward or how it might be structured, but the discussions highlight ongoing interest in reviving established entertainment properties in the streaming era.
