A major transformation at Walt Disney World is drawing sharp reactions from fans, as Disney prepares to relaunch its iconic Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster with a new Muppets-themed experience.
The ride, located at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, originally debuted nearly three decades ago, featuring music by Aerosmith. It closed in March 2026 for a major refurbishment and is now set to reopen on May 26.
In its reimagined form, the attraction replaces Aerosmith with The Muppets and their band, Electric Mayhem, marking one of the most significant thematic overhauls in the ride’s history.
Disney has introduced a range of visual and storytelling changes, including a multicolored entrance design, a redesigned guitar marquee, and new pre-show elements featuring characters like Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy.
The storyline now centers on a fictional recording-studio takeover, with guests boarding a Muppet Labs limousine while listening to revamped tracks performed by the Electric Mayhem. The ride will also include celebrity cameos from stars such as Neil Patrick Harris and John Stamos.
Despite the updates, the reaction online has been largely negative. Many longtime fans have expressed frustration over the removal of Aerosmith’s music, which had been central to the ride’s identity since its opening.
On social media platforms, critics described the change as unnecessary, with some calling it “the worst thing Disney has ever done,” while others said they “miss Aerosmith” and want the original version restored.
The overhaul reflects Disney’s broader strategy of refreshing legacy attractions with new intellectual properties to appeal to younger audiences. However, the strong backlash highlights the challenge of balancing nostalgia with reinvention.
As the reopening date approaches, it remains to be seen whether the updated experience will win over skeptical fans or deepen divisions among theme park enthusiasts.
