A New Jersey court sentenced Paul Caneiro to four consecutive life terms after relatives condemned him as a “monster” for murdering his brother’s entire family in 2018.
WEBDESK – NJNEWSLINE: A New Jersey judge on Tuesday sentenced Paul Caneiro to four consecutive life sentences for the 2018 killings of his brother, Keith Caneiro, sister-in-law, Jennifer, and their two children, Sophia and Jesse, in a case that stunned the state for years.
During emotional courtroom statements, surviving family members described Caneiro as a “monster” and a “quadruple murderer” who destroyed an entire family in cold blood. Relatives Bonnie Karidis and Bette Karidis urged the court to ensure he would never return to society.
Monmouth County Judge Marc Lemieux handed down the sentence, telling Caneiro, “You are a quadruple murderer,” before imposing four back-to-back life prison terms.
Prosecutors said Caneiro murdered his brother’s family at their Colts Neck mansion before setting the home on fire in an attempt to cover up the crime. Investigators later linked him to the killings through surveillance footage, phone data and forensic evidence.
The horrifying case drew nationwide attention because of the brutality of the murders and the apparent betrayal within the family. Keith and Jennifer’s children, Jesse and Sophia, were both found dead inside the burning home.
Family members said no punishment could erase the pain left behind, but hoped the sentencing would finally deliver a measure of justice.
