Former Sadaf Jaffer has officially endorsed Adam Hamawy in the Democratic primary race for New Jersey’s 12th Congressional District.
Jaffer, who also previously served as mayor of Montgomery, announced her support for Hamawy while praising outgoing U.S. Representative Bonnie Watson Coleman for her years of advocacy and progressive leadership.
“We’ve been very lucky to have a congresswoman who stands by her morals and is absolutely a voice for those who are disenfranchised, economically disempowered, for those who need a political voice, and for those who are facing war and genocide abroad,” Jaffer said.
Referring to Hamawy as Watson Coleman’s ideal successor, Jaffer added, “I can’t think of a better choice than Dr. Adam Hamawy. He’s a healer and in this very difficult time, that’s what people are looking for.”
She also emphasized what she described as Hamawy’s “moral consistency,” calling it one of his strongest qualities as voters prepare to choose a new representative for the district.
Hamawy, a physician and military veteran, is seeking the Democratic nomination in a closely watched race to succeed Watson Coleman, who is retiring after years in Congress.
New Jersey’s 12th Congressional District includes parts of central New Jersey and has long been considered a Democratic stronghold. The primary contest is expected to attract significant attention as candidates compete to replace one of the state’s most recognizable progressive lawmakers.
